COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT THROUGH POLYTECHNIC – ACTIVITIES
   
First Need Based Survey
Conducted  by: P. V. Polytechnic  with the local NGO, ‘SKS Chakshu Foundation’

Area: Aakurli, Harigram, Nere, Umroli, Satichi Vadi and Shivkar of Raigad Taluka (Maharashtra)

Survey Details:A team from P. V. Polytechnic comprising the Principal In-charge and seven HODs/In-charges/lecturers interacted with the target groups of women, school-children, school drop-outs, tribal population, the doctor and the staff at Laxmi Eye Institute and the ‘Sarpanch’. The social workers appointed by the NGO, Ms Suvarna and Mr Santosh Bhujbal, assisted in coordinating this visit. Eight projects were identified which could be covered under the scheme and four of them were scheduled to be implemented immediately from March 2010.
   
Collection & Processing of the Medicinal Plants

Program Details:  The tribal women of Satichi Vadi and Bapdeo Vadi were trained in processing of ‘Ritha’ and ‘Shikakai’. They were also given training in marketing their products in the village fairs. The processed product was sold at a good market rate which gave confidence to the tribal women to continue with the activity. The project was prepared and implemented by the In-charge of the Department of Pharmacy, Smt. Aarti Alashi.
   
Preservation of Fruits & Vegetables

Conducted by :The Department of Food Technology

Program Details: The Department of Food Technology conducted a training programme for 30 SHG members from Nere, Palspe, Koproli, Umroli etc. on making dry raw-mango powder and tomato ketchup. The project was prepared and implemented by Smt. Smita Pandia,   Offg. Head, Food Technology Department
   
Spectacle Lens Fitting

Programme Details : A Certificate Course in ‘SPECTACLE LENS FITTING’ was offered at Nere Extension Center for the students from Dhundare, Vaje, Nere and Satichi Vadi. The Students who regularly attended the course were placed in optical shops at Panvel
   
Stitch craft - 1: GARMENT ENHANCEMENT & DESIGNING

Conducted by The Department of Apparel Manufacture and Design

Programme Details : The training in Garment Enhancement and Designing was given to trainees, who teach tailoring in rural areas of Alibaug and Panvel through Jan Shikshan Sanstha (JSS). The course helped them to enhance the product and improve its marketability.
