The Tata Department of Food Technology was established in 1978. It is now one of the leading department in training the students in the areas of Food Technology. The Dept. conducts various Entrepreneurship Development Program (EDP) & Vocational Training Program(VTP) in Food Processing for aspiring entrepreneurs. As social responsibility we have conducted workshops for students with learning disability, for transgender. We have started nutrition awareness programme for school children through our EAT RIGHT CAMPAIGN. We have conducted Dehydration Technician course for school/college dropouts under Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana ( PMKVY).
‘Diploma in Food Technology’ empowers the students with knowledge and skills required for quality control and research & development in food industries.
Throughout the course students will discover the world of food – from raw materials to ingredients, processes and packaging to finished consumer products! As a food technologist, they can play an important role in making foods more appealing yet healthier and safer!
In First year students will learn basic sciences and basic skills of Food Technology.
In Second year, students will integrate basic food science knowledge to explore advanced subjects of food engineering and technology.
In Third year, students will develop new products by conceptualizing, performing sensory evaluation and conducting shelf-life studies, to transform raw materials into consumer focused end-products.

In the year 2004, the department received a grant of Rs. forty five lakhs, sixty six thousand from the ministry of food processing, Government of India, New Delhi for upgradation of its laboratory facilities.
The students get hands-on experience on modern state of the art machines and equipments.
